In order to defend Taksim Square and Taksim Gezi Park against projects  that lack any scientific, technical and democratic basis and which will irreversably  destroy the square and Gezi Park; we, social rights initiatives, NGOs, neighborhood associations, professional bodies and concerned citizens came together under the banner of Taksim Solidarity more than two years ago and waged a struggle both on the legal front and in the streets.

The incessant attacks on our living spaces, and especially on Taksim Square by a government that ignores all ethical, scientific, technical and legal standards in order to impose its projects turned into lawless violence on 27 May 2013; which in turn spread our solidarity and struggle to all corners of the country by 31 May 2013, giving it a permanent and universal dimension in world social, urban and democratic history.

Today we are witnessing once again events that prove the rightfulness of our honorable solidarity and struggle, and reveal that the the real motivation behind the violence against the people that cost tens of lives is to silence the voices of democracy, rule of law, justice, humanity, peace and nature in order to preserve this corrupt system that is falling apart in every way.

As Taksim Solidarity, we call on all members of the press and all our citizens to join us in a press conference on Tuesday 27 May 2014 at 11:00am at the Istanbul Chamber of Architects in Karaköy to share an assessment of the past year as well as talk about new developments.
